Snowless mountains at China’s Winter Olympics are Lake Tahoe’s inevitable future
In the future, the artificial snow in Tahoe might only be possible at the expense of key water sources. One study from 2018 by the Climate Impact Lab found that the number of days below freezing — not only impacting the days snow will naturally fall on the ground but also the days that artificial snow is readily produced — could drop from 41 (an average taken from 1981 to 2010) to eight.
