Incorporating Climate into Macroeconomic Modeling

This workshop organized by the National Academies of Sciences Engineering, and Medicine explores current macroeconomic modeling approaches, discuss physical damages of climate change and their implications to the macroeconomy, and examine relevant aspects of the energy transition.

This workshop organized by the National Academies of Sciences Engineering, and Medicine explored current macroeconomic modeling approaches, discuss physical damages of climate change and their implications to the macroeconomy, and examine relevant aspects of the energy transition. Sessions over the two days culminated in a synthesis discussion to consider the steps needed to advance macroeconomic modeling to appropriately account for economic impacts of climatic disruption.

Bob Kopp, Board Member of the Climate Impact Lab, provided opening remarks. Tamma Carleton, Assistant Professor at UC Santa Barbara and affiliate researcher with the Climate Impact Lab, presented in a session, “Economic Impacts, Damages, and Risks of Climate Change.” James Rising, Assistant Professor at University of Delaware and affiliate researcher with the Climate Impact Lab, presented in a session on applying insights from the workshop.
