Climate Impact Lab co-director Michael Greenstone spoke on a panel for Andrew Carnegie Fellows. Following the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), it is clear that finding agreement on climate change action requires complex considerations, among them human impact, new technologies, and global energy needs. There is no doubt that urgent action is required but some solutions present their own dilemmas. How will the costs of green capitalism impact the pursuit of clean energy and social justice? What is the role of global governance to ensure that geoengineering does not yield harmful and unjust consequences? How can we develop sustainable and equitable modern energy systems in countries where people still lack access to electricity? This panel explored these questions.
